Baked lamb with potatoes in red wine sauce
Inspired by various traditional recipes from around Greece this is a delicious idea for Sunday's dinner. You can substitute the mustard powder with classic jarred mustard but in this case it would be nice to add a little bit of dried or fresh thyme so to give an extra flavour

Tarama salad with artichokes
This is a different and, in my opinion, more modern version than the classic taramosalata spread. Simpler and faster in procedure and the addition of the artichokes (instead of bread or potato) gives a totally different texture and taste but still very very interesting. The white type of tarama is always the most preferable choice

Cod fillets with raisins cooked in wine sauce
Delicious recipe to enjoy the cod in a different way. Normally, this recipe demands dried and salt cod fillets. In Greece this is a very common way of preserving fish and this type of fish is very popular in cooking. If you follow this idea then you'll have to leave the fillets (cut in portions) to soak in cold water for up to 2-3 days before cooking, changing the water several times a day. In this way it will become fluffy and most of the salt will be discarded

Velvety carrot soup with leeks and ginger
A delicious Winter-time dish with a special taste because of the ginger which, admittedly, is not traditionally used in the Greek cuisine. The carrots though?? The leeks? The soups??? Oh, definitely yes! So, here we have a nice soup with this humble vegetable as the main star. A soup which will satisfy your hunger to the full

Baked potatoes with dried figs, herbs and a surprise ingredient
This is a delicious and very versatile recipe because not only you can enjoy it as a light vegetarian meal but definitely you can accompany various meat, poultry and even fish dishes with it. The potatoes become so tender and tasty, absorbing all the flavours of the herbs while slowly cooking. The surprise ingredient in this recipe is the herbal tea you use instead of broth or water!!! And this tea is not any tea you might know or often use but one that grows wild in the Greek mountains around the country and it is commonly known as "mountain tea" (or ironwort or shepherd's tea). I know you can find this tea in special tea shops or you can buy it online. I think you should try it not only because of this recipe but mainly for its health benefits. Still though, if you are hesitant about it you can substitute with dried chamomile tea

Spicy fried eggs in yoghurt sauce
Light lunch or dinner? A meze to share maybe? Why not for brunch or even breakfast? Regardless the time of the day the recipe remains spicy and delicious and it is something that can be served all year through. If you love fried eggs and if you don't mind a bit of spice in your food I believe this recipe will please you a lot. It is a variation of a traditional recipe coming from Northern Greece where they specialize in spicy food. A part of the country where countless of delicious recipes come from and the rest of us are just happy to enjoy! Keep in mind to add the yoghurt towards the end of the cooking so it won't curdle and add plenty of lemon juice. The combination of the ingredients might sound weird but trust me the result will impress you! The original recipe demands "Boukovo", a spicy and very hot flake powder made from hot red peppers and which is used a lot in the Northern parts of Greece (and other Balkan countries). If it is not easy to find it you can substitute with sweet paprika or freshly ground black pepper

Semolina dessert with spices, cocoa and walnuts
Easy and delicious dessert with the strange name "Melahroino" or "Melahroini" which literally means "the dark one" because of its colour thanks to the cocoa and the walnuts. The word actually refers to people with very dark hair (dark brown or black) or to people with darker skin than others (not implying at all though to coloured people, so not to have any misunderstandings here...). It is a rather traditional recipe with minor differences from region to region and quite popular all year through. Ideally can be served with whipped cream on the side or vanilla ice cream or even a couple of dollops of thick Greek yoghurt

Tyrokafteri - Hot spiced feta cheese spread
A very tasty meze which goes perfectly well with all types of bread - especially with some "country style" bread with sour dough or brown multigrain bread lightly toasted. Enjoy this cheese spread along with some ouzo or chilled wine. It is a classic dish in most ouzo-taverns around Greece and this is one of the various versions you can find. Feel free to substitute the dill with, for example, dried oregano

Home made dough for sweet pizzas
This dough is different than the rest! Its purpose is a whole different story because... instead of pepperoni, you put on it banana slices... instead of grated cheese you add melted chocolate... instead of tomato sauce you spread luscious syrups and/or jams.... Any similarity to the doughs you knew so far is just coincidental... Try this recipe out and create the most delicious sweet pizzas you ever tasted and you'll see how easy it is after all to make them at home

Inspired from traditional recipes this dish will not give you a hard time to prepare. The various fresh greens and herbs give a great aroma and taste to the recipe and it can be served as a main vegetarian dish or as a side dish to various meats or poultry.
