A delicious, simple but impressive dessert to finish a nice dinner. Apples are in season now and they are so versatile to allow you to create the most tasty and beautiful desserts
Ingredients (for 5 portions):
5 medium red sweet apples, washed and dry (try to get apples of the same size)
1Kg of puff pastry, cut in large discs (size of a dessert plate)
150gr. of butter or margarine, melted
granulated sugar
ground cinnamon
ground cloves
1 egg beaten with some milk for glazing
brown sugar
Method:
Preheat the oven at 170°C.
In a shallow dish put plenty of granulated sugar and mix it with some ground cinnamon and some ground cloves until well blended.
Using an apple corer take out the centre of the apples. Using a brush, grease the apples all over with some butter. Roll each apple on the sugar/spice mixture- making sure they are well covered on all sides.
Place each apple in the centre of each pastry disc and bring together the four sides on top so to seal the apple.
Using a brush, glaze the puff pastry with some beaten egg and then generously sprinkle on top with the brown sugar.
Place the apples in a pyrex dish and bake for 40-50 minutes until the pastry is nicely coloured and the apples cooked enough.
Serve while they are still hot.
