Easy and fast homemade basic mustard recipe + 2 tasty simple ideas

I know..... what's the point to make mustard at home since, nowadays, there are so many companies around the world with some really tasty and well made mustards which make our lives easier... What if I'd tell you that "why not? Just for the sake of it!" or "Why not to have the satisfaction that you did try it at home and probably your mustard would taste much better than the store-bought one?" Would these reasons be enough to convince you? Probably not, as I was not for a long time:-)) But, believe me, once you do it for a first time following this basic recipe, then you'll do it again and again because it's so easy and fast! So, here is the basic recipe which you can easily adapt regarding the quantity of the ingredients but better to start off with a small jar so to see how it goes

"Cook Book" magazine of "ETHNOS" newspaper

Ingredients (for 50 gr. of mustard):
6 tbsp of mustard powder
3 tbsp of malt vinegar
1 tbsp of granulated sugar
1 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil

Method:
Put all the ingredients into a blender and whiz until they are well blended and you end up with a creamy mixture. *** While you work on the ingredients you might need to add 1 tablespoon of water depending on how thick it is.

Transfer the mixture into a sterilised glass jar, seal carefully with the lid and store in a cool place for a day before consuming, so to give the chance to the flavours to come together nicely.

The mustard can be stored for up to 3-6 months.

So, simple as that, this is the basic recipe to prepare mustard at home!!

Having this recipe as a guide we can improvise by adding various herbs or spices of our choice.

For example:
a) By adding some finely chopped gherkins or other pickled vegetables you have a nice spread for the burgers or to accompany grilled sausages.

b) If adding 15 fresh tarragon leaves (finely chopped) then you'll have the ideal condiment for steamed or roasted chicken
